Walking through the workshop, Hassan ran his fingers over an assortment of items on a ledge before picking up a corroded piece of rust-coloured metal. «Oxidized copper mix,» he said in halting English, miming grinding it into a powder, «for colour». He continued to pick up other scraps of metal, glass and stone from the bench, pointing first to a mortar and pestle, then to one of eight coordinating sample colours on a tile palette.
